RACE REPORT HOTSPOT 6

Hotspot 6 was held from Insuza 318 km Southeast of the loft. The race point was shortened by 55km because of the predicted adverse winds and rising temperatures during the day. There were clear skies and variable crosswinds and headwinds on the course from 14 to 16 km per hour. It was cold in the morning and the temperature climbed to a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius (86 deg F). The humidity was very dry between 10% and 20%.

There were 670 pigeons sent to the race. The first pigeons recorded a velocity of 1458 m/min.

38 pigeons returned in the first 5 minutes
126 in 15 minutes
181 in 30 minutes
288 in the first hour
409 on the first day
474 by the close of the race
29% of the birds sent did not return in race time

We did have some birds injured from hawk and falcon attacks. There were some pigeons that returned after the clock was stopped most of which are in reasonable condition but were rested.

In preparation for the final, we are giving the pigeons short tosses with the first online toss being Wednesday 17th and the last planned for Monday 22nd. The pigeons will be rested from Tuesday 23rd for the race on Friday 26th July.
