RACE REPORT FINAL RACE 2023

The Final Race was held from Masvingo 583 km from the loft. The weather was clear with good visibility and a Northeast to North wind (side and headwind) over the whole distance. The wind was variable from 8 to 15 km per hour. The maximum temperature did not exceed 30 degrees Celsius.

735 pigeons were sent to the race. The first pigeon clocked after 8 hours 18 minutes of flying with a velocity of 1170 m/min and 45 minutes before the next pigeon.

• 17 pigeons arrived on the first day.
• A total of 206 pigeons were home by the close of the race at 18:00 hrs on day 2.
• Pigeons continued to arrive after the race closed and 331 were home by the end of day 3.

 28% arrived in race time including some with minor hawk injuries. The pigeons are in excellent condition and have been graded for the up-and-coming sales.

Super Ace Competition

The final leg of the Super Ace was completed and was won by PIPA Breeding Loft with “Klein Victoria BK”.

164 Super Ace pigeons were back in race time. Un-won prizes of $186 000 have been split evenly between these 164 prize winners and added to their winnings.

Final Race

The Final Race was won by Hans-Paul Esser with “Conny's Dream Comes True”. A velocity of 1170 m/min and 45 min lead.

Grand Averages

Grand Averages was won by PIPA Breeding Loft with “Victoria BK II”.

Knock Out Competition

The Knock Out was won by Hans-Paul Esser with “Conny's Dream Comes True”.

Team Competition

The team competition was won by PIPA Breeding Loft.

GPS Trackers

One tracker bird 10560 carrying a tracker ring arrived on the first day at 17.50 hrs. The pigeon stopped twice for water for 40 minutes and 12 minutes and took a wide arch downwind of the straight-line route flying a total distance of 685 km. Other trackers of interest arriving later were 6801 and 6808. 6801 stopped once for water on the first day and continued and stopped for the night close to Shangani (the release point for Hotspot 4 and Hotspot 6). It continued the next day arriving in the afternoon. 6808 appeared to have been attacked by a hawk about 1 hour 15 minutes after liberation and stayed in a thickly wooded area on a ridge for 27 hours before the battery died. The pigeon returned un-injured after that.

There will be no Enduro series this year. Pigeons have been selected for sale to go to a number of auctions, the details of which will be published soon. If your pigeon is not selected it may be bought by the entrant according to the following terms;

5.5 After all races are finished an entrant may elect to buy back their own pigeons for US$ 500 plus shipping and quarantine costs, each under the following conditions.

5.5.1 Only pigeons not selected to go to any auction may be bought back.

5.5.2 Only the activator of the bird may buy it back. This right is not transferable.

5.5.3 The cost of the bird plus shipping and quarantine costs must be paid before shipping.

5.5.4 Approximate costs can be given at the time of booking which must be done by email.

5.5.5 Shipping will only be done to destinations where we can legally, easily and safely transport pigeons. Buyers in other destinations must arrange with the respective shippers in these countries for onward shipping.

5.5.6 There will be no portion of the sale amount of US$ 500 due to the activator of the bird.
