RACE REPORT HOTSPOT 5

Hotspot 5 was held on Saturday 1^st July from 318 km. There was a cross wind which was very strong, blowing from the East as predicted. The maximum daytime temperature was 28 degrees Celsius but the early morning was chilly.

The winning pigeons recorded a high velocity, but the later pigeons were much slower with many coming back from the West. The 10 prizes were won by fanciers from 8 different countries!

The GPS Tracking results from birds carrying tracker rings showed that they all went straight despite the cross wind, but 2 of them stopped.

Of the 1105 pigeons basketed the following was recorded;

56 birds in 5 min  (5.1%)        

141 birds in 10 min  (12.8%)

358 birds in 30 min  (32.4%)

648 birds in 1 hour  (58.6%)

832 birds on day 1 (75.3%)

When the clock was stopped on the second day the total returns were 949 birds. 85.9% returned in race time.

The next race, Hotspot 6 is planned from 435 km on 15th July which is the last race before the final on 28th July. There will be a couple of short trainings between races in preparation.
