RACE REPORT HOTSPOT 3

Hotspot 3 was held on Wednesday 14th June from Insuza, 318 km. There was not much wind and there were clear skies. The early morning was cold, 6 degrees Celsius building up to a maximum of 30 degrees Celsius. There were some minor hawk injuries seen on returning birds.

GPS Tracking results from birds carrying tracker rings did not show anything out of the ordinary. There are a few trackers that have not returned yet. If they do, we will be able to download the information to see if there is anything of interest.

There was a pack of 7 pigeons in the first drop closely followed by groups of other birds. The 1st pigeon recorded a velocity of 1520 m/m and the 10 prizes were won by fanciers from 5 different countries.

Of the 3069 pigeons basketed the following was recorded;

76 birds in 5 min  (2.5%)

318 birds in 10 min  (10.4%)

1637 birds in 30 min  (53.3%)

1998 birds in 1 hour  (65.1%)

2298 birds on day 1  (74.9%)

When the clock was stopped on the second day total returns were 2448 birds. 20% did not return in race time.
