Hotspot 1 from 192 km was raced on Saturday 4th June. The pigeons had a strong tail wind and crosswind at times. The daytime temperature was cool with a maximum of 24 degrees Celsius. The highest altitude reached by a tracking pigeon was 2651 meters above sea level (1701 meters above ground level).
Soon after liberation there was a hawk attack by 2 or more Black Sparrowhawks which were seen chasing birds all over. After 15 minutes the hawks were still seen vigorously pursuing pigeons. Of the 18 Trackers which clocked, 14 cleared well and 4 were chased for some time. The last Tracker bird which clocked was 50 minutes behind the 1st bird in the race and was chased for 33 minutes before clearing. This is evident on the tracking results downloaded.
The pigeons that cleared well at liberation reached high velocities and by the time the clock was stopped there were 5282 of the 5492 pigeons home. 96% of the birds returned in race time.
The race was fast for the pigeons that managed to stay on line. Many of the later returning pigeons went with the wind and came back from the West and Northly direction flying into a headwind back to the loft. Several of the pigeons sustained hawk injuries. Generally, the pigeons are in good condition but the injured and some of the later birds will require rest.
The Team Competition selections must be made this week. See this clip explaining the rules https://youtu.be/qWTgjacPaLk **(put your sound on)**
Send us your chosen 7 Activated birds before 10 June 2022!
If you have 7 Activated birds or less then you will automatically be entered. If you have more than 7 Activated birds and do not send in your chosen list then we will randomly enter 7 of them for you.
Congratulations to the prize winners for Hotspot 1!
